Transparency in Child Welfare: All About the Office of the Child Welfare Ombudsman

This training will help interested individuals in child welfare better understanding the role of a potential Ombudsman or "Child Advocate" office. We will hear directly from the Colorado Deputy Ombudsman.

This TWO-hour intro discussion + Q&A with Jordan Steffen, Deputy Ombudsman, of the Colorado Ombudsman office will provide a high-level introduction into the role of the office, how it's structured, why it was created, and how it has evolved, and how it has positively made a difference in the role of child protective services in Colorado over the last ten years. The office also works with other state offices, federal agencies, and local agencies around the country and will speak to different ways different states have similar offices set up, as well as what works, et. The Colorado ombudsman works directly with NCSL & their child welfare efforts to provide best practice for all states. She has offered to work with or guide any legislator in any way to create similar successes for New Mexico.
