TRAINING: Disclosure of Confidential Info in Child Abuse Fatalities (& Near Fatalities)

- New Mexico received the 3rd lowest score for “state secrecy and child deaths” in 2012 for poor public disclosure policy on child abuse fatalities and near fatalities
- New Mexico’s law has not changed or been updated since 2012
- New Mexico consistently ranks 49-50/50 for child well-being in US
- New Mexico child maltreatment and child safety measures rank among the worst in the nation with maltreatment related fatalities doubling last year.
- New Mexico child maltreatment death rates doubled in 2020, the only metric on child death CYFD is currently required to report.

WHAT TO EXPECT
- 1 hour education session via zoom to present to lawmakers, child welfare advocacy, and transparency watch dogs on what the law, federal, states.
- We want session attendees to leave 1-hour session with better understanding (and familiarity) of child abuse fatality and near fatality laws under CAPTA & NMSA
- Highlight best practice/GOOD public disclosure policy, both state and federal
